“The first lie that the child tells thus begins the process of the parent’s death.”

I love the way the third section mirrors the second one: Mr. S— enjoys giving his little speech for the same reason the narrator enjoys her tipsy confession to her mother. I wonder if the mother also learned an unintended lesson.
