This story has a welcome genre-fiction atmosphere, like something out of Crimewave or a horror publication. (I notice the author’s work has also appeared in Weird Tales, Strange Horizons, and Lady Churchill’s Rosebud Wristlet.)

One major criticism: I hate the narrator switches. For the love of clarity, why not just introduce the narrator at the start of each section? Why not title each section with the narrator’s name? It doesn’t help that the characters’ voices sound so similar.
