On Black Clock

“My idea was that Black Clock really would be a writer’s magazine, that the only reason a DeLillo or Richard Powers or Joanna Scott or Jonathan Lethem or David Foster Wallace—all of whom have been in Black Clock—would be in it was because the magazine offered them the freedom to do anything, to even fuck up if they wanted or needed to. At the same time we would bring in more and more new voices, and I think if you look at how the magazine is evolving you’ll see that gradually the stars are giving way more and more to the discoveries.”
